Volunteer at your
Pierce County Library!

**ALERT: Library locations are not currently accepting general volunteers. To get involved, please join a Friends group.

Contact your local library to learn about available volunteer opportunities. Each location has different needs, so not all opportunities will be available at all locations.

When you are matched with a volunteer opportunity, staff will provide you with our online application and paper copies of our background check packet. Complete the online application. Return the paper background packet check via email, fax or mail, or take to your local library.

When your application and background check have been processed, staff will contact you about scheduling and beginning your service.

Frequently Asked Questions

The library accepts volunteers who are fulfilling court-ordered or school community service requirements as long as they pass the required background check and there is a suitable opportunity at their desired location. Please be aware that volunteer placement generally takes two to three weeks and that most volunteers serve an average of two hours per week. In addition, the availability of volunteer opportunities varies seasonally and by location. The library may not be able to provide enough hours to individuals who need a large number of hours or have a pressing deadline for completing their service.

Visit your local library. Library staff will be happy to assist you with registering for an email address at one of our public internet stations. Once you have an email address, you will be eligible to apply to become a volunteer.
